Being Thankful in Difficult Times
Unless you are independently wealthy, you may be experiencing some difficulty during this time. The things that are going on in our nation affect all of us in one way or another. Even those of you who do not live in the United States may be feeling the same sort of trials we are going through. If you are like our family and are in the “tighten the belt” mode, aren’t you glad that with our digital supplies we can still enjoy our hobby?
I think most of us who have been around Hugware for awhile have a variety of things we can use and mix and match even if we are cautious about buying too much new stuff at the moment. That’s one of the perks of our images: so many of them work so well together. And thankfully, the Creatables are so reasonably priced. As we shop for new images we can take into consideration which products they will work with most efficiently.
As you look at, and work with, your downloadable images, why not try to create some of your own artwork to use along with your Hugware on your pages. They are our pages and should reflect us as well as the other artists whose work we admire.
Hugware is used by some of us to create scrapbook pages and by many others to create a variety of craft items for sale or personal use. The number of Creatables with the same theme really lends itself to creating items that go together for home or office décor.
I had the fun (and the privilege) of meeting a Hugsister from the message board just this last month. She was passing through San Diego and took the time to meet up with hubby and me for dinner in Old Town. We took a few photos even though it was getting dark outside. She sent me a page she created (Project 1). In this page she followed the ongoing tradition that
Mitzi the Duck

Project 2: More Fun with Color
Using the color palatte we created in the September article, let’s do a few more experiments.
(This was created in Digital Image Suite 2006.)
The colors at the top were copied and pasted with a bevel applied.
(This would be a cool border for a page or an alpha could be added.)
The dodge and burn tool was used to create a rounded look, munch like the bolt of fabric in a sewing shop.
(This is used frequently to create a preview of a digital kit.)
Effects were added to create a textured page.
Various distortions were used to create some interesting additions to your page.

Project 3: Creating a Thinking of You Card
Created with
Autumn Angels
by Laurie Furnell
I wanted a leaf pattern background from my favorite selection.
I copied and pasted it to make one vertical row down the page.
I flattened the entire row and duplicated it to fill the rest of the page.
I added it to a solid background created using the eyedropper tool to pick one of the colors in a leaf.
I added two mats and an angel image to the right half to create the outside of my card.
I added text and shadows.
*In DIP you can create a stamp of your favorite pattern and in Adobe, you can create a brush or a pattern to fill a page.

In DIP I went to Effects/paintbrush/stamps.
I then hit open file and selected my leaves
(make sure you have made the background transparent).
I selected make stamp.
I used the stamp to paint or stamp the kind of background I wanted.

There you go! Some simple fun for fall!
Your assignments, should you decide to accept them:
Keep a positive attitude.
Encourage and lift up others.
Be thankful for little things.
Share your time and talent with others.
Teach someone how to do something you love to do.
Meet me back here next month.
Hugs,
Thena
